A few important questions.
Does a background check cover every employee?
No. Each check applies to a named person. Confirm that the people assigned to your project have been screened, including subcontractors where relevant.
Does screening guarantee safety or good workmanship?
No. Screening provides information from specified sources at a point in time. You should also check references, experience, required licenses and current insurance.
What must an employer do before screening?
Employers must follow applicable disclosure, written-consent and fair-hiring rules. When a report affects an employment decision, required notices and opportunities to address errors must also be handled correctly.
Important screening information
A background check covers one named person, the selected searches and the completion date. Available records may be incomplete, delayed or inaccurate. A national database search does not search every court.
Screening does not guarantee safety, honesty, work quality or future conduct. A paid listing or membership does not mean a person has passed screening. One person’s check does not cover an entire business or crew.
Licensing and insurance must be checked separately. These packages do not replace required fingerprint checks or specialized screening for regulated roles.
Employers remain responsible for lawful hiring decisions, required notices and protecting personal information. Follow federal, state, local and industry requirements. This page provides general information, not legal advice.
